AESTHETIC-USABILITY EFFECT
Users often perceive aesthetically pleasing design as a design that’s more usable.
Usability and Aesthetics are the two most important factors that affect the overall user experience for a website or a mobile application. Users are strongly affected by the aesthetic aspect of the interface even when there's no usability present in the interface. Aesthetics are crucial in the design industry, but as designers, we have to acknowledge usability as an equally important factor.
Instagram is one of the most popular social media apps. Instagram is both aesthetic and usable. There are two aesthetic parts to Instagram, First is the interface, and the second is the images users post. People are drawn to colorful things first than simple black and white. Everyone knows how to use Instagram. The infinite scroll makes us stick to it for hours. You wake up, open Instagram, and by the time you close the app, it's dinner time.
Takeaways:
- An aesthetically pleasing design creates a positive response in people’s brains and leads them to believe the design works better.
- People are more tolerant of minor usability issues when the design of a product or service is aesthetically pleasing.
- Visually pleasing design can mask usability problems and prevent issues from being discovered during usability testing.
